 Hello, I’m Freya

Ok, so my baby is about three and a half years older than she was when I took this photo, and I no longer live in East London… but this is me, Freya Dowson.

Just like you, I live in the UAE. And just like you I care about capturing those special moments with a photograph. I first picked up a camera when I moved to London as a twenty-something, not really knowing where I was going with my life, and that little act of free will has taken me on such a journey.

For more than ten years I’ve worked as a photographer in some of the worlds most challenging environments focusing on wildlife and conservation as well as international humanitarian issues. From photographing a baby hippo while she tries to nibble my toes, or a young elephant while he tried to steal my camera, to capturing the lives of coal miners in Pakistan or breastfeeding mothers working in the scorching temperatures of a brick kiln in India… I feel SO passionate about my work and so fortunate to be able to do what I do. I’ve had incredible experiences and loved every minute of it.

And then, one day in late September 2018, my little girl Rumi was born. And a few years later along came my other little girl, Marlow. So now as a mum to two little ones, I want to use my skills closer to home as well as on the road. I’m excited to offer the kind of lifestyle photography I’ve always loved but never had a chance to shoot except for my own family, while continuing to do my my documentary work at www.freyadowson.com.

I love capturing for others the moments that I’ve so loved capturing for my own family.

I’m so excited to work with you and your family. I love to pause time with some beautiful photographs that reflect your life, right as it is in this moment, living in the UAE and loving every minute. I love to create little pockets of memories with my work so that when you find yourself in need of a moment to reflect and remember, you can look at those photos and be reminded of when things were chaotic but sweet, and you were tired but so in love with your life.
